When we look at Gladness, n., we see that it is joy also, or a moderate degree of joy and exhilaration, pleasure of mind, cheerfulness.
Gladness, found in 47 Verses, of which, only seven are in the New Testament, KJV
The Book of Mark doesn’t contain any verses with the word joy, so I searched for gladness. We do see gladness used in Mark in 4:16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
Some of my favorite verses about joy follow:
Galatian 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
-I take this to mean that outside of the workings of the Holy Spirit there is no real joy.
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
John 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves
-I grab this and run with it. The joy of Jesus found in me? Yes, I want that promise!
John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
-Another verse that promises the joy of Jesus can stay with me,
Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
-Such a time to feel joy! When another realizes the hope and salvation in Jesus and repents.
For a long time, I questioned whether Jesus was in my heart. I doubted because I lacked joy.
I held onto my own beliefs and not the promises in the bible. I like to describe the joy associated with having Christ as your own personal Savior as:
Your no one can take joy!
And that kind of joy is growing in me daily. It is joy amidst sorrow, and tribulation, and persecution. Not just when things are well.
It’s knowing, that I could lose all things in terms of worldly goods, but God will get me through. My joy’s tied to my faith, and hope and plays a part in my overall peace
I found my joy growing when I specifically claimed the promise that Jesus would complete His work in me.
My joy is in the Lord!
